Default anyone else been a .org pimp?

filling up car at tesco's on sunday, go into pay.

whilst in the que a nekkid silver pointy pulled up and started filling.

I was so curious as to if he was on the .org or not I forgot to give the lady my 5p off per litre voucher

so I walked up to a complete stranger and said "alright mate you on the org?"...he looked at me like I was an alien

I explained its an SV650 meeting place and we do ride outs etc and help with technical issues and general sv;ness.

He said he would sign up and he liked the bike only had it a little while.

he has not joined that i have noticed

I feel like one of those charity dudes on the streets who hunt you with fake smiles and you say anything to get rid of them.

I think it was Shakazulu who was enlightening me on the joys of the org in a mate of mine's shop one day, when after about 20 minutes I told that I was already a member and gave him my posting name. He did a pretty convincing job.

Once upon a time, long, long ago...................

Yes done that, when this place was much smaller, flyers and accosting strangers on SV's was the norm, carried cards in my wallet and stuck one on any SV's parked up in bays I used, but then that was in the infant days of the Soho Massive (which was the first of the regional groups), don't really do it much anymore, although I often chat to strangers about bikes and it may come up in conversation.

After much hard work the Soho meeting has a degree of reputation of it's own now so it tends to be easier to say to people where it is and just pop along anytime they can (which is one reason a regular meeting place is important I beleive),
for the first couple of years the winter would see the friday meet sometimes drop to me stopping off for a coffee at nero's for half an hour, then heading off home, but always made sure a motorbike would be parked up there if anyone dropped by, once I had moved back to a Speed triple from the SV in early 2004, that no longer became necessary, winter attendance is normally 10-12 or so and high summer (if we ever have it) can see 40 odd bikes there.

Although we have a geographical advantage I suppose (as in high consentration), the Soho meets have always been, both outside* and technically illegal

All in all it's worked and continues to work well.

* all weather, part of the appeal is the busy friday night Soho wildlife passing .

Cheers Mark.
