Exclamation wont start - electrical help needed ASAP.

Hi,

So i go to start the bike today after a couple of weeks of sitting there and find that despite charging all night when i go to prod the starter switch nothing happens. being slightly confused i check all the usual (sidestand, gear, killswitch) then crack out the voltmeter to check the battery. It is reading fine. So from this I have now checked the starter relay (all fine) and begun to check that there is voltage at all the relevant places.

I have then bridged the connections at the starter relay and it has started to crank, so battery and starter are fine.......

How many volts should i be reading at the starter switch??? It is testing fine in terms of continuity through all connections however there is only a very small voltage showing. Even when bridging the switch nothing is happening.

I am now confusing myself and probably all of you so need abit of advice (never really tackled electrical problems before)

Can someone methodical give me a helping hand???

Cheers,

Ash.

With the checks you have done then either the start relay is faulty or it is not operating.
1. check the start relay by putting a battery on the yellow green wire of the relay, if the starter operates the relay is ok. Alternative way would be to check if you get 12 volts on the yellow green wire of the relay (with the start button pressed) with a meter.
2. The battery feed to operate the start relay comes via the engine stop switch then the start button then the clutch switch then to the relay. Use the meter to check at the kill switch for 12volts then check the start button orange/white wire, if Ok press the start button and the 12 volts should be aslo on the yellow/green wire of the start button. If Ok then check for the 12volts at the yellow black wire ( the colour changes along the way) of the clutch switch and again on the yellow green of the clutch switch with the clutch operated. the yellow green then goes to the start relay Should be quite straight forward to determine where it goes missing. Good morning all.

Have you tried bypassing the clutch switch? This is often the culprit when your engine won't crank over.

Cheers.

Hi I had this issue after my friend ditched mine. Are you 100% the main starter solenoid is operational i.e. can you physically feel it click when you push the starter button.

Bare in mined you have a starter control relay as well as the main starter solenoid.

Google SV650 wiring diagram and tht should explain it better. I simply got another control solenoid, plug it in a away you go.

I think you only have the start control relay on the SX and SY bikes the K1 and K2 only had a start relay
