Re: 2009 fast idle
I didn`t touch anything...tho I bought the bike like this couple of months ago. At the time I didn`t know it can be a problem..I thought I can just turn the screw and adjust the idle.

Re: 2009 fast idle
Hmm...when you take off the tachometer, remove the needle, and install it again. On the next start it should do a little dance...move to 7k rpm than back to 0, right?

Re: 2009 fast idle
Do you mean the actual needle on the Tachometer?

Re: 2009 fast idle
Yes, the actual needle. I removed it some some time ago to change the orange led lights into white.

Re: 2009 fast idle
When I replaced my peeling Tacho decal on my 1999 Curvy I didn't trust the info on the net(I rarely take anything posted as gospel and always do multiple research) I had set the idle with the engine at nominal running temps @ 1300 +/100 RPM.
When I replaced the Tacho needle, even after flicking the throttle several times,it still settled high so I had to remove the needle and move it several times and repeat the throttle flicking until I got it to settle back @1300 Rpm. I checked a few YT videos against my engine sound just to be sure I had got it right so record your bike@ idle on your phone when the engine is warm and then compare it against a few on YT? Note:Better slightly high idle than low.Too low an idle can cause undue engine wear by lack of oil pressure.

Re: 2009 fast idle
Has anyone tried a FFT app to measure the engine speed, presumably the dominant frequency would be quite easy to spot.

Re: 2009 fast idle
I've looked into this a bit. There's some cheap LED Tachos on eBay,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digital-LE...oAAOSwNyFWd9SD but where could we attach the signal feed? Red to power. Black to Neg Green signal? Also one that uses spark plug induction, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LCD-Digita...gAAMXQWzNSeGYa

Re: 2009 fast idle
I don't know about the pointies, but the naked curvy tacho is dead-simple. It has a +ve a -ve and a signal from the spark plugs, which is one cycle per revolution. I had it set up with a signal generator (10v square wave) and that worked perfectly, so you could calibrate one that way.
The digital tacho you linked to has a 5V sensor which would make it more complex to install. I bought one of these which works with the existing (curvy anyway) wiring: http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorc...stroke-engines It worked pretty well, but with the dual spark, I'm guessing the tacho has changed significantly, so all bets are off. |
