SV650S handlebar change?
Hi Folks, Need to raise the bars on my Sv650s, been reading a lot of posts about expensive factory made conversion kits and such like, Might be me but it cant be as simple as buying these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/28mm-1-1-8...item27d922573a and a set of bars ?, Drill some holes in exsiting yolk and hey presto cheap conversion ?. (well heres hoping) .

as the weight transfer from the bars is through the top yoke (unlike clipons which clap to the forks), the yokes are more robust, generally this means "beefing them up", this is normally done by either adding a plate beneath or inserts in thwe bottom of the top yoke, also watch for cable runs as some will need longer ones.
So no not as easy as just drilling a couple of holes, well not if you want to be half ways safe....

I have discussed drilling a Gixxer top yoke with YC on here for when I swap my forks to the USD front end I have bought. The idea he has suggested is a set of shaped plates bonded to the bottom of the yoke to help spread load and prevent the bolts ripping out under hard use. Combined with my custom risers, this should give a good support to the low weight yoke.
Currently I have fitted a Naked yoke from a K4 and that has a tubular section that the bolts pass through as part of the casting. It is more substantial than the S yoke it replaced, but not by much It is possible to run standard S cables and so forth, but they tend not to run as smoothly or look as tidy as replacements. I run a V-Strom clutch cable, custom throttle cables and extended brake lines. I have also extended my switch gear wiring to allow for the turning arc of the wider and higher bars. Not as elegant, but it works. Ignore the frog, he was helping. |

I used a standard S top yoke (Pointy) and bonded two 10mm thick aluminium shaped plates to the underneath to strengthen it. I may be able to email some pics to you if it would help.

I used a naked yoke top which had risers fitted (oem), fitted renthal road bars and all cables were long enough.
With the yoke a 5mm spacer was made (sits on top yoke just before the headstock nut went on) as the top yoke of a naked was slightly thinner. All good and comy as hell. At the same time I switched the MC to a One of a R6 2CO and added race lines. |

650N yokes have a different offset to the 650S yoke so should not be mixed top and bottom as there is 1.5mm of difference in them
