Sounds about right Chris.

Definitely prefer good torque to high BHP. I know they're not mutually exclusive, but a bike being able to solidly pull along is more useful to me than racing.

Street Triple was great for that. You could leave it in 4th and pretty much do anything.

To be fair it seems they can do it when they want. What's their big singles up to now 70bhp plus and 60-70 mpg? (Always trawling Autotrader for a 690/701)

As long as they keep putting a decent sized tank for decent range on them I dont really care if they need a drink. I'm not into touring petrol stations. (Like the VTEC's too, 22L?)...unless im on the SV thou' now that likes a drink.

My bikes figures are still on there. Same user name as here. Chucked it as always low to high 40's unless I was out for a proper blast and I knew I could get to the 200mile range if need be.

I did get 180 miles out of one thank on the VFR and that was great. About the longest trip I do down to in laws in Cornwall so perfect. That was flashing empty for 20 miles though. Seemed to be a tiny bit in the tank when I filled up. Since then it's been nearer 130 per tank most of the time. Range is important. Not sure I'd want the 330 miles + of a GSA though. For one thing I couldn't afford to invest in a full tank of fuel to sit in the garage for local trips normally.
Part of my problem I think though is city riding and short trips with the 4000rpm warm up it does waiting to calm down and set off at the beginning of each trip.

I like a big tank too. Filling up every 100 miles is a chore. The VFR 1200 lost sales due to a big thirst and small tank. I suspect the Suzuki Katana will suffer too.

Bikes do seem to be getting less practical and more hung up on odd styling. There was a time when you could get a puncture kit, waterproofs or a chain and lock under the seat (or maybe all three)

IMO part of that is more electronics and looms to squeeze into ever narrowing spaces as is the trend of underslung exhausts, secondary to keeping their immense bulk worth of cat converters low

I've always been mechanically hands on, from late 90's Thundercat mid '00s FZ6 and later SV to the 2015 Tracer now.. The service manuals have drastically increased in thickness and complexity
