Default Battery dead, even after 20 miles.. Alternator issue?

So I tried starting her up this morning, just like every morning and the battery was dead completely. (lights still came on, just wouldn't attempt to turn over).
The battery is a year old and the bike is a K6 with no previous battery/alternator issues.
After bumping it and getting to work 20 miles away I parked up and cut the engine and tried starting it again just to see if it had charged. I got exactly the same result as I did in the garage...
Is there some possibility that it could just be disconnected or is the alternator foolah'd?

I'll be able to bump it to get home tonight but it isn't ideal and could do with the quickest fix possible.

I'm completely numb to alternators, I don't even know where the bloody thing is so bare it in mind when you try offering advice to a numb nut like me!

P.S, I have no multimeter or electrical reading/tester devices

Thanks in advance.

Lew

With no meter or knowledge of how to use one, there isn't much that one can do to diagnose the problem.
That said there are one or two things that might, note: might - they will not be conclusive, point you in the right direction.
1. When you turn the ignition on, does the dash come on as normal?
2. Does the fuel pump whirr for a few seconds as normal?
3. Exactly what happens when you press the starter button - does the dash dim? Does the headlight dim or go out? is there a 'click' noise from under the seat?
4. Is there no sign of life at all from the starter, no chugs or noises of any sort?

If everything happens as normal, (except the starter, obviously), then I suspect the battery and charging is OK, but the starter system is the problem, this could be a fault in the button, the wiring, the solenoid, the lockout relay or the starter itself.
20 miles isn't far, but if the battery and charging systems don't do as they should the battery wouldn't last long, as you're able to bump start it and you haven't mentioned anything about how it runs, from which I take it it's OK, then my earlier rough diagnosis stands - it's charging OK, and the fault is with the starter system.

Ah okay.. Very helpful thank you.
No headlight dim, all the dash is working fine.
I do get a tick under the seat when I press the starter button but nothing at all else.

The fuel pump primes and the headlight and dash don't dim...

Am I cancelling out the reg-rec?

You can buy a multi meter for under a fiver on Ebay, cheap and nasty but fine for basic testing.
