Re: Motorcycle Insurance 2017?
By the same token if I put crash bungs on my bike I should expect a discount on my premium instead of an increase. Generally I have found they will replace said upgrade with oem if claimed. But as we all know any excuse to up the premium and excess. I mean stickers!! why is that a mod?
The biggest difference between the brokers is the support and customer service in event of a claim

Re: Motorcycle Insurance 2017?
Modifications are a bag of worms. I've just tried a few online and comparisons. For third party only I start off around £70 on comparison sites. Add Scottoiler and heated grips and it goes up to £87, exhaust (no performance increase) adds nothing, upgraded shock brings it to £95. However that site wants EVERYTHING declared, so I keep thinking of others I have or might have and it seems an endless list (air filter, hugger, fender extender) Thankfully indicators are standard and no tail tidy. Just remembered gear position indicator.
Starting to think that Bennetts with their list of accepted modifications is going to be the best option. Any other insurers with that sort of exemption? |

Re: Motorcycle Insurance 2017?
Hmm .. interesting qualification on Hastings Direct ...
"The motorbike is the manufacturer's original specification with no modifications that enhance appearance or performance" Could be interpreted very liberally, either way. I'm sure nobody would claim a Scottoiler enhances appearance, nor heated grips, but "performance" is a very vague concept. |

Re: Motorcycle Insurance 2017?
Really?! Do you all declare things like scottoilers and crash bungs? I haven't ever and to be honest some folk wouldn't know what came as standard when buying a secondhand bike. What about when dealers add them to drive a sale?

Interestingly, crash bungs are not on list of standard modifications for Bennett's - you need to declare them. I have no idea why!

Re: Motorcycle Insurance 2017?
One of the arguments Bennett's have is that if you declare them, they will be covered by the insurance. That does make sense, although it's not clear if you can leave them off and take the risk on yourself.
