Tried that first, all it did was strip the threads out of the centre, so had to re-tap it.

Oh, I see, the bolt was to extract it so I gather the rotor is on a taper with a key? Argh, this isn't looking good then because heat is the answer but too much heat will demagnetise the rotor...

Yeah, I've got the rotor bolt itself off, and I'm trying to draw the flywheel off the taper.

I've also tried a hot air gun, with a nozzle, to try and keep the heat away from the magnets, but that didn't work, and tried giving the removal bolt a few sharp taps with a club hammer to see if it will shock loose, a bit like you can do with taper ball joints.

Just tried again today, with a better spanner on the flats, and had another go with the impact wrench just for good measure, but all I'm doing is creating more damage - the centre flats on the rotor are getting even more chewed, to the extent that I'll now have to grind or file the burrs off just to refit the rotor bolt and washer, and I'm also stripping the threads of the removal bolt.

Unfortunately guys I'm going to cut my losses and pull out of this group buy - looks like my flywheel is stuck on the motor for good. Maybe the age and mileage of the bike has something to do with it - it's a 2000 model, with 49k on the clock.

Really pee'd off about this, especially as I started this thread in the first place. Can't remember the last time I failed to get something apart, but this has beaten me. If ever I have a problem with the rotor I think I'll be looking for a new engine!

Not what you want to hear but I think I'd be putting it back together and sticking with it in its original state.

That's pretty much what I've decided to do. I'm only going to cause more damage if I carry on.
