restricting a bike
Hey everybody i am a new member on this site but have been surfin it regulary for a while since i passed my bike test in april (i am 18 yrs old) i currently ride a Honda Varadero xl125.. ina a few weeks i am looking to purchase sv650s k5 and i no about top speeds etc. in the long run would a sv1000s be suitable to attach a 33bhp restrictor kit on and what specs would it have e.g top speed etc. any info would be greatly appreciated thanks

good idea but i suggest that you get a 650 k5 first insurance aint that bad im paying 700 fully comp. but i would be very suprised if any one will insure you on a restricted thou. my insurance company and most others if you tell them bike is restricted then they will just say ok but it will be on their systems as a normal bike etc if you see what i mean.

cheers mate il keep tht in mind just fancied broadening my horizons - if u no what i mean. i spoke to guys at carole nash and they wanted 550 a year on tpf&t. just wanted to see if it was possible thats all. thanks
p.s has anyone ever restricted a cbr600 or a R6 |

ay of course i wouldnt mind reaching 19 either, as for the grammer i sincerly apologise . i was just curious as to which it has been tried or tested on any of the above bikes i have my heart set on the sv650 now and i doubt the insurance companies would even consider me for the others . cheers

you can restrict any bike u want to 33bhp, its just the fact that some bikes are pointless to restrict, i don't see the point of getting a r6 for example paying stupid amounts on insurance and still only be able to do the same as me on my restricted sv. ok yeah it will be nice when the time comes to have all that extra power but at the same time jumping straight onto something like a r6 you are missing out on the progression of power that i personally am really looking forward to. going from 33bhp, to 70, and then 110, the 180 etc etc, gives a much better understanding of what bikes actually have to offer in my opinion. but that's just what i have to say, and i am no expert or anything!

Bikes react differently to being restricted, I believe the SVs take to being restricted better than CBRs and R6s (can't say for sure, I've ridden a restricted SV, unrestricted SV and unrestricted CBR), personally I would suggest getting the SV, they don't mind being restricted and they are excellent bikes for a first 'big' bike.
