Default Emergency braking, i knew i'd been practising for a reason...

Been down the local supermarket car park regularly practising my stopping, and today i had to use it in anger, twice.

First instance, silly morhen decided to run across the road in front of me, instead of grabbing the anchors i manage to pull off the first half of a text book emergency stop and avoid having "chicken tonight" all over my front mudguard

Second time round it was a chap in a golf, pulled out of a junction to my right after a row of cars had passed in the opposite direction to me, got about half way into my lane before stopping. given that i was doing ~35 in a 30 and he immediately put his hand up apologetically (i'm sure he mouthed the "SMIDSY") i just nodded and went on my way, chuffed that i'd not only slowed enough to stop but that at the same time managed to point the bike at the gap he'd left me

the last time i had to stop quickly i almost tucked the front, so practise your emergency stopping, you never know when you might need it

I think the braking skills are a very good thing to hone this time of year.

I've had a few brown trouser monets of locking up the rear when scares happened over recent months and with more wet roads and colder tarmac to hurt the grip, the speed's gotta come down too.

I'm not a big fan of using the front brake into a corner anymore.

Unhappy Re: Emergency braking, i knew i'd been practising for a reason...

...er....yeah... I need to practice too Failed my test last Thursday - 4 minors and what felt like a spectacular skid on the emergency stop. Grabbed the front, stamped on the back, bike went sideways for an instant, recovered it and stopped in a straight line just before the examiner. Swore very loudly.

Examiner told my instructor he thought I was going to bin it. Poo.
