Changing rear pads
Hi Guys
Going to be changing rear pads on my SK2 tomorrow any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated. Also when refitting the caliper to the bike, what should I torque the bolts up to? Many thanks Mitch |

Re: Changing rear pads
Make sure the pistons operate properly when you have the caliper off, dont pump them out to far mind. Give the caliper a good clean also make sure the disk is clean as well. when pushing the pistons back in make sure your brake fluid doesn't overflow from the resevoir. You might as well bleed the brake after.
Torque loading for the rear brake caliper mounting bolts..26Nm or if I have worked it out right 230 in/lbs or 19.17ft/lbs |

Re: Changing rear pads
The pins may well be rusted in... Very common, that.

Re: Changing rear pads
Thanks for your help guys
You were right pins were stuck in tight, had to soak them in WD40 overnight to get the buggers to move. Cheers Mitch |

Re: Changing rear pads
Just changing my rear pads today and finding it hard to force back the pistons in enough to get the new fat pads in.
I've taken the top of the rear reservoir off, any more suggestions? I've got them back a bit, and refitted the old ones and there was loads of slack, do you think something is seized? Do i need to drop the whole calliper? And do I need to take of the rear wheel? Thanks Inexperienced Mechanic No. 1. |

Re: Changing rear pads
Always make sure you've pumped the pistons out a little, cleaned them up with hot water and added some red rubber grease. If they won't go back in strip the calipter and rebuild it properly.

Re: Changing rear pads
So is that apply red rubber grease to the pistons, and then copper grease to the backing plates?

Re: Changing rear pads
Well got the new pads in today after helping the pistons back in with a little gentle mole grip persuasion (a la Haynes). Will grease up once I've bought some red rubber grease, currently working none stop, tomorrow's my 14th day so I haven't been able to get to the shops!

Re: Changing rear pads
Lightly with both applications.
