Quick Q on that R/R thing!
Hi all
I know this subject has been done to death but just require a quick answer to one or two questions. Having been stuck in a wood with a flat tyre I reckon my Reg/rec is about to give up the ghost! Usual stuff...fluctuating rev counter, dim lights, cutting out and failing to start (low battery voltage) etc etc, so have decide to upgrade the R/R for something better. Done some thread searching and seen the CBR unit is recommened as an improvement however is this a 600 or 1000 unit, any particular year and is it a simple wiring mod? Also would any other R/R work? I have looked fleabay and it would seem that a GS500 is a similar if not same unit. Any other makes peeps would recommend with or preferably without mods being done? Cheers in advance and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! PJ |

Fluctuating rev counter can be other things, you checked security of earth connections etc?

Re: Quick Q on that R/R thing!
Thanks for pointing that out Yorkie.
New battery fitted recently and last i checked (last week) all connections were tigh and correct. I will however have another check tommorow on all connections. Would this also explain bike not restarting? PJ |

Re: Quick Q on that R/R thing!
When my reg/rec went on the VFR it melted not sure what the unit is like on the SV but when i upgraded mine it was for the CBR one, the 600 I believe. Which ever one you go for (if it turns out to be the reg/rec) then i would recomend heat transfer compound to put between the frame and reg/rec to help with heat transfer into the frame, the fins arnt the only way it cools down

Cheers Ploppy & Yorkie
Have taken battery out for a charge and will refit tomorrow and check voltages. Yet another issue to deal with! PJ |
