Default Bump Start? Not a Chance

Well what a morning i have had.
Got up at 5.00 to get a head start at work. Got suited and booted ready to ride to work, Pushed the start button........ The bike is not interested.

Fatal mistake 1 about to happen.........

I think to my STUPID self, I will bump it down the road no probs we live on a slight hill. I start to push...... Jump on ohhhh ya bugger nearly.

Fatal Mistake 2 about to happen.........

I think .. I will push it a bit further down the road, Not a hope of starting.

I am now at the bottom of a hill with a bike that wont start and a choice to make either i push it home or i go a little bit further for the bigger hill.

Yep you guessed it.. I chose the try bumping it on the bigger hill.

So the bike is now a MILE away from my house, its all up hill to get it back and i am ****ing knackered and slightly embarrassed at having to call a work mate to pick me up

I feel bad for laughing but that is sods law there, I always found the SV a bugger to bump start but thats just harsh it not wanting to start when a mile away.

Good luck sorting it out Viper

I've bump started the SV before now. Only once had to do it mind.

Ran down a very slight (very very slight) down hill, jumped on, hit the starter with clutch out & in 2nd. No go. Kept it rolling, jumped off the pegs & as I hit the seat, hit the starter & clutch out again. WAYHEY she fired!

Then I went around a corner, tapped the brake & my first off

At least yours wasn't quite that bad!

Bumped various SV's over the years, never had a problem, nice light bike (although it obviously depends on what's wrong with it to start with).

Admittedly I've given up trying if it's the Speedtriple, but that weights significantly more (think I've only even bump started it once and although successful, it teaches you never to do it again.)

So what do you think it is then Rick, flat battery, ran out of go juice ? or perhaps just getting older these days

Cheers Mark.

I've never been able to bump mine from cold... I just find the wheel slides before the engine starts. But I have left myself at the bottom of the hill once

Never bother with bumping the bag of spanners usual practice is jump it off the car and after having to do that about 10 or 12 times get the battery on a refresh charger.
