That's a "soft" rivet link Si the first one is the tool for them.

Yep, Just did this myself, and with a tool almost identical to the first one in SS's post. That tool also comes with the correct adapters/anvils (square bits in the top left of the box), for first pressing the link into place, before using the one to peen the pins.

If there was ever a case where having the right tool for the right job makes it 10 times easier (and therefore more enjoyable) then this is it!

I've also used (borrowed) an identical tool to the first one in Sid's post and changed several chains with it. One thing (via a couple of mistakes) I learned is not to over-do the peening at the end, otherwise you'll split the end of the soft link and need to get another one.
