Riding on ice?
Just a quick question, I was riding down my side road (completely iced over) and when I eased of the throttle the back seemed to lock up and slide for about 10m before I pulled the clutch in and everything was fine. What I'm asking is can the bike lock the back wheel just from engine braking. Thanks

No. Engine braking is the same as applying a bit of rear brake. It won't lock like applying rear brake but if the wheel is rotating slower than the rate you're moving, you're sliding. Good job you weren't applying any front brake.

Many moons ago Kawasaki had a recall on two bikes I had 85 GPZ 900 & GPX750.
Carb iceing. Did give me a heart in mouth moment once. Up to a roundabout in the wet and cold. The recall re work didn't help that much .  Stuck snow mobieal addative in it in the end.

Engine braking won't LOCK the wheel. It can however cause the wheel to SLIP.

Use a higher gear---and excessive steering ,braking[be it engine] or acceleration will cause a slide.
Even a 4 x 2 car using engine braking will result in a spin if you are not careful. |
