I prefer a flat-rate service. Google already makes loads of money from ads. I think this is going to be a move towards making more and more pay-to-play content, which is an easy way to make quicker money.

Let's say I prefer a Netflix approach more than a Blockbuster one.

No I dont, you already pay for consumption of some media. This just allows you to reach it via YouTube also. Most content on YouTube will remain free.

It used to be ahead of the game. Then the development stalled and I dislike some of the new features. Most people will complain about Google Plus integration, I actually like that, the comments section was pure garbage before. I don't understand why it needs to rebuffer when you skip ahead and had the stream section before. To give you one example. Checkout Soundcloud to see what is a proper modern player.

It is still good though, and I like how they have pushed the CDN game forward.

Youtube historically is the biggest pusher towards free content online! When Sony was trying hard to block music in Youtube they ended up settling by helping them create Vevo. That was a huge win.

Also, what is up with pretty much every single video having an annoying ad before it now. Getting too used to waiting those 5 seconds before I can skip.

You've taken those words out of context. What I meant was that although there would be premium content available, the vast majority of what you currently watch will still be available free.

There are however many videos that have no right to be shared on YouTube for free as they are done so without the permission of the copyright holder. Our expectation to watch those without paying is flawed.
