Default Theory test soon

Hi all.
well, part 1 of my 'get my bike license' plan has started.

I've booked my theory test for jan 7th. so my question is.
I've had a full car license since i was 17, urm 14yrs now and 2 yrs riding a scooter. does everyone think i'll need to buy one of those 'pass you theory test' books or will my general road knowledge be enough??

what is the format, is it just highway code type stuff??
cheers

the actual theory bit should be easy. I haven't ever revised for one and got 34/35 first time, then 35/35 both of the second times.
The hazard perception is a little bit trickier.
It's not that the hazards are difficult to spot, it's dealing with how they decide if you spotted it.
Basically, the idea is that you click when something happens on the screen that you think might cause you to have to change direction or speed, in reality it's just click on the random thing they have chosen for that clip, and none of them account for bike specific hazards either.
Best plan is to get the dvd or a piece of software to practice.
Good luck, anyway.

I got the book, but in the end I got full marks It was only really useful for the silly questions like tram lines, and other signs that you never actually see, IMHO.

General knowledge may not be enough. I had been driving for 27 years
when I was due to take my bike theory test but I decided I need to
prepare for it properly. I recommend you read the latest edition of the
Highway Code + get yourself a computer CD which randomly generates
bike theory exams (preferably, a pirate copy to avoid paying the £10 or
so official price).

There are some pretty sticky questions, eg. What is the maximun width of trailer that can be towed behind a motorbike ?
Until I read the question book, I didn't even know you could tow a trailer
That Q came up in my theory exam

Drop me a PM with your details and I'll post it to you - I doubt I'll ever read it again

Get the cd. every question is on it. sit at your computer for the weekend and work your way through until you are consistantly passing

Worked for me 100% pass.

No it is not like the old highway code. there are some silly questions so watch out for the "not's" and which 3 of the 4 type questions. and crap about trams.
when I did my cart test the only place that had trams was blackpool so no stupid things about signs for trams etc then. Now there is usually 2 out of the 35 question that include a tram related question

kjames,

Don't bother with the CDrom, waste of money my good friend.
When you book the theory test, they should also send youa CDROM with your confirmation, in this it gives you a little taster of what to expect on the theory and hazard perception.
The theory is pretty straight forward, if you've been driving fo that long, you should know the basic ones, however, the book i bought for pennies had all the questions that you could get asked.
If you want to borrow the book PM me it helped me.

Hi, I have the "Driving Test Theory 2003/2004 edition" (2 cd set) - I worked through all the questions over a weekend - till I knew them all off by heart - got 100% on that part of the test. There are also a shed load of hazard perception clips which I found really useful - I ended up gettting 80% or so for that part (this was just over a year ago).

..anyhoo the point of all this - you can have the CD's free if you like, just pm me your address (or where you want it sent) and I'll post it...

also contains a digi version of the highway code....

let me know if you want it

Cheers (and good luck), Connell.
