Default K7 onwards versus K3 to K6?

I'm starting to look around for a replacement SV to replace my K6S. There seems to be quite a few of the K7-onward twin-spark bikes around.

Are they much more complicated to maintain compared to the K6?

In nearly 4 years and 22,000 miles on the K6 I never needed to touch the TPS or carb sync, as I never had a problem with lumpy running at low rpm or low-speed jerkiness. Are the twin-spark bikes just as easy to look after?

(To the curvy crew: sorry, I prefer pointies )

when it comes to servicing then its 4 plugs instead of two. you can DIY sync the TB's as you need the "special" tool or get your dealer to do it, top tip if you get your dealer to do it is fit vacuum extensions before you take it in.

i've done many TPS adjustments on peoples bikes and its well worth doing.

oohhh and the twin sparks get better MPG then the single sparks.

Thanks Bibs - plugs I can manage, and if I remember right the TPS adjustment method is almost the same on the K7 onward, isn't it?

So it's just the TB sync that needs the special tool to manage the idle control or whatever?

yup that should have read cant DIY.. my bloody dysl.... strikes again.

yup just the TB sync that needs the tool. it needs done every 20k or so as they do go out of sync.

good news is that you never have to play with a tick over screw

Don't judge me, but there's a very clean-looking 11-plate 650 Strom with ABS in a local dealers, accessories like heated grips, hard panniers etc, I'm quite drawn to it. Cheaper than an equivalent SV too ...

Perhaps I got an undiagnosed concussion during the crash

I've been looking at the 2012 - 16 models (without the 'beak', and with the Gladius-derived engine), and I do quite fancy one ...
