Removing tar from the bike
I have droplets of tar stuck to the plastic bits of my bike, mostly on the bit
that covers the front wheel (front hugger? don't know how it is called). This is probably the result of riding along a recently resurfaced road. Is there any way of getting these tar droplets off? I am sure this was discussed on the forum but can't find the thread. |

Yes.
Auto Glym Intensive Tar Remover. I've just bought a bottle, cost £3.79 from Charlies (a discount store) here in S'bury. I think it's £5 in Halfords. It is REALLY effective, will get rid of tar, oil, muck, crap etc. |

Yup, WD40 will do. And it's called a mudguard if you're in the UK .

There quite a few tar removers on the market. I use turtle wax bug+tar remover. A normal polish/wax will also get it off but that takes a bit more elbow grease.

As far as I recall, when I was washing my bike yesterday I tried both
WD40 and paraffin, without much success. I will try WD40 and paraffin again today, and, if they don't work, will head to Halfords in search of Auto Glym Intensive Tar Remover. Thanks to everyone who replied! |

By the way, I tried using Holts Motorcycle Wax today, also without
success. Maybe my tar is an especially bad tar. |

Car wax is a pretty good cleaner and remover of ingrained dirt as well as being a protectant - remember that it it's polish and polish works by gently grinding away the surface of paint with minute abrasive particles which are held in suspension in a wax base.
So if wax polish and WD40 won't remove the tar spots, either they're not tar or you haven't added a big dollop of elbow grease . . |
