Unexpected whining on Suzy??
Ok over the weekend I gets her out to go to work as usual. Now before you all say its wind through the fairing-I have various rattles and stuff from the faring and this sounds different.
Now over 3 and half thousand revs this whining kicks in and when you slow down and let off throttle it disappears. I thought it were wind through my helmet or summat, but, Im Indoors borrowed her to go to work and it was HIM that pointed it out to ME. He also knows that bike inside out and would know if it were just 'wind' and fairings. He said that he thinks it may be the fuel pump....he seen this happen on another bike, but Chris has argued it can't be the case. So guys I now open the arguement up for you..........what is this god damn whining that has come from nowhere...and if you lot can't offer a suggestion I'm going to have to let Chris 'test drive' a full power bike to hear it for himself.

On a private road of course I hasten to add, before the mass debate starts.

Re: Unexpected whining on Suzy??
Personally I can't see it being the fuel pump, and since it apparently traces engine speed (above 3.5k) and doesn't change with the gear you're in. I'd guess clutch. But it's just a guess.

Re: Unexpected whining on Suzy??
serious clutch or minor. New clutch cable to go on anyway........thats after you try freeing the old one off at the bottom. Its welded on!!

Re: Unexpected whining on Suzy??
apparently said whining, is from the engine, chris can't put his finger on it, so we spoke to Mr spannerman who put him in the right direction.......Suzy is poorly sick, theres talk of cams, bores pistons and far too many troubleshooting ideas for me to understand
oh and she's leakin oil from her left side casing

Re: Unexpected whining on Suzy??
Most of the time I've heard a whine from a moving bike it's been the chain. This is cheaper than the bores and cams being shot to hell, so humour me and check it out...
Whatever it is, I hope it's cheap. If the oil is leaking from the left side near the front sprocket cover this may be because the front sprocket nut is loose, allowing the oil seal too, well, not. This can give you a drive train noise and oil leak..... I'm a cheery optimist though.....

Re: Unexpected whining on Suzy??
Potentially daft question- Is it in every gear? Mine whines in first when I get to a few thou revs- but that sounds like the same whine as a car in reverse (if you unnerstan whut I mean)- reckon this is a normal thing, as it's never caused problems...

Re: Unexpected whining on Suzy??
no. I'll clarify our findings, Suzy has aquired an uncharactoristic whine over 3000 revs. I thought it was whilst riding but earlier today we started her up and revved her over 3000 in nuetral and she is whining then also. This is coupled with a rather large amount of oily, stinky cloud from her exhaust whilst the choke is on. This has been noticeable on cold start for a couple of months, but the whining has just started at the weekend.
