Chain and sprocket
Hey all,
I have an SV650SK3 that is in desperate need of new chain and sprockets. Can someone tell me what is best to get? How many links should i get in the chain? Is it a good idea to alter number of teeth in either front or rear sprocket? why? What is the factory shipped front and rear sprocket teeth count for my SV? Was looking at the Renthal SRS4 chain and sprockets. any thoughts? Cheers in advance. Rob |

Re: Chain and sprocket
Whereabouts do you live Codejack? I got a Tsubaki gold chain and JT steel sprockets for my K4 from Spannerman for a very reasonable price inc fitting. Could have had gold renthal sprocks but the factory had none avalable at the time.

Re: Chain and sprocket
I'm in Dublin, Ireland. Cheers for the offer anyway.
Just wondered what was good and what sizes i'm gonna need. Should probably get off my lazy ass and count up the teeth and chain links but just wanted the easy reply and possibly a better option of gear ratio. |

Re: Chain and sprocket
Depends how you ride it. Got about 22k out of my chain (including track days, touring and the Nurburgring a couple of times) but it was well and truly fubared by then, jerking the bike about at anything less than 6k rpm on the throttle
The chain needs replacing ones it becomes too long to adjust anymore or starts developing tight spots that mean you can't adjust it properly at all points. As for the sprockets if they are "hooked" they definitely need changing, if not they may get by with a new chain. However you can often buy chain and sprocket packages which make it worthwhile changing everything as the sprockets don't cost that much more. If you search "chain" you may come up with a few more posts with suppliers etc. |

Re: Chain and sprocket
ha ha ha my bikes only done 12000 miles and the OE chain has already got tight spots in it prob down to lack of greasing by former owners
