Throttle Body Sync Screw Settings Needed!
Hello from Australia!
My company relocated me + my beloved UK SV650s K4 out to Western Australia. I'd done 80k mi in the UK. Love my SV and this INCREDIBLE forum + its members. Question 1: Could a few kind members use a feeler gauge / vernier calliper to measure their Throttle Body Sync? Question 2: I've mucked about with the idle setting ("throttle stop screw") and have no idea if it too high or too low. How do i reset it? Would it be right: adjust to achieve a "0.17mm" gap between "A" marked in the above Black/White tech diagram (SV Service Manual 5-35) Question 3: To stop the "loose throttle body syn screw" issue, any recommendations? I was thinking clean the thread + use thread lock? WHY DO I NEED THIS In short, she was on a long motorway roadtrip then was misfiring all over the shop. I just limped her home. Now she won't start. Suspecting the throttle body sync ... I checked and the screw is loose and completely undone. As she won't start, I can't set this with my vaccum gauges. Could you give me an approx gap to set mine to? or start with? CHECKED: Oil + filter changed, airbox cleaned + airfilter changed, new spark plugs. TO CHECK I'm about to check the usual misfire list. Please, suggestions are most welcome: - Butterfly movement, Vacuum bungs + all hoses (PAIR/Fuel), - Spark Plugs (visual inspect + test against chasis), Coils - Fuel Pressure, Clean Fuel Filters, Flush Fuel (could be rust/water in fuel) - Desperation: injectors, cylinder compression, - Any sensor checks or common wiring harness/connector shorts to check? Re: Throttle Body Sync Screw Settings Needed!
to set the bottom screw you need vacuum gauges you cant just 'measure' the gap.
if you messed with the top screw you need a vernier gauge to measure the butterfly gap. to set the idle you use the screw on the left hand side of the bike located in the trellis just under the tank. |

Re: Throttle Body Sync Screw Settings Needed!
Hi Bibio
Thanks for the prompt response! I can't get her to start and suspect it is as the bottom screw was totally loose and had unwound itself. I know you shouldn't just measure the gap, but I need to set the bottom screw to something to get her to start. I've tried a few random guesses but can't get her to start. Vacuum gauges only work once the bike is started. Last edited by williamturner1; 25-07-14 at 06:25 PM. |

Re: Throttle Body Sync Screw Settings Needed!
your shooting at the stars... at a rough gestumate turn the balance screw (bottom one) in 3-4 turns form fully out, this might let it start. if you do get it running dont run it for long till you get the throttle bodies properly balanced.
if need be turn the idle screw up a little. |

Re: Throttle Body Sync Screw Settings Needed!
oohh and a little tipex or even glue will stop the screw rattling even better is threadlock but just make sure that its not the permanent kind. you dont need to take the screw out.
