Nice looking bike, i was wondering how does it compare to the sv? i mean power related with only being a 100cc more, i'm thinking of up grading and i want to stay with a twin so am looking at the 748/749, your opinion would be appriciated.

My other half has a 749S having ridden it and the SV. There is no comparison.

It might only be 100cc more but there 749 I think has around 40bhp more than the SV. Also it rev's like a IL4 does, if you keep it on the boil its amazing to ride. It out handles the SV in everyway you can think of and more. The brakes are fantastic better than they are on my GSXR, much more feel. Its a very focused bike, it doesnt like to be ridden gently or slowly, everything needs thinking about and concentrating on, to much of a pansy with the gear lever and you'll miss a shift, you have to be positive with everything you do. The harder and faster you ride it the more it comes to life. Liz's 749 even has a power band, seriously it does, rev it past 6000rpm and you get big surge of power and then your on the rev limiter.

Downsides.

It doesnt make a good commuter or town bike, the mirrors are sh*t, its easier to trap your wrists between the tank and bars on full lock. You have to keep it in the right gear at the right time otherwise you get a lot of chatter back through the transmission. I.e town riding at 30mph requires first or 2nd gear only. Anything more and it bogs down badly and it complains about it. The side stand is sh*t and I dont trust it as it bends and flexes and it doesnt feel sturdy at all.

I dont know what a 748 would be like as I havent ridden one, I'd image the same, except I think the 748 has a different riding position to the 749.

In short if you want a step up from the SV but dont want an IL4 SS600 bike, that you get out go for a ride and then put away again, you wont beat it.
