Mine was a 1969 Vauxhall Viva HB. The wire worm had a huge appetite, and the 3 bearing crank of the 1159cc engine could not cope with my demands. It died under a horse truck on boxing day 1978 with police car shoved up its back end. I did say the road was icy, and the police knew the road was blocked when they came round the same corner as I and applied their brakes.

GKL 765V a black 1275 GT Mini in black with Gold 1275GT decals down the sides & 12" (I think) mini-lites. Fitted bucket seats...Loved that car! My parents hated it.

Ford Cortina 1600E as a learner, but once passed my test went to auction with £140 in my pocket and came home with a Toyota Crown.

Like this:

2 tons, 17 to the gallon, £90 insurance. Happy days.

but how easy were they to work on and cheap to fix. todays cars are a nightmare to work on - this is the reason I sold my 02 plate mondeo estate to buy an F reg xr2. can buy 4 tyres for xr2 for the same price as 1 mondeo tyre, no injectors, electrical stuff to go wrong. yes the new cars are comfy, quiet, dont rattle quite so much but as I dont do any long journeys my new wee car is brilliant, takes me back to the good old days when driving was always an adventure. my 2 year old was sat in the back of car the other day. "what is that noise?" she asks. "Its the car" I reply. "I like it, brummm brummmm". lol

first car I owned was an E reg mazda 121. learned to drive in mazda 323 back in 1985.
