I think the mk5 escort rs2000 discs can be made to fit maybe even the cossie ones fit but may need to run bigger wheels.
Wouldn't rear discs be a bit overkill on it as they don't weigh a lot?

I'm thinking some braided hoses might help with the brakes.

Have got a burton catalogue here and a stage 1 head is £540, stage 2 is £600 and stage 3 is £650

It was apprently one of those things to do to modified XR's in the day. Mine came with most of that work done when i bought it and it stopped like hitting a tree...no ABS back in them days either.

Braided lines and uprated discs/pads would work, also check the breather pipe for the servo. It used to perish.

I'm with you on that. I had a mk1 golf gti. Still believe that it wad the best car I've ever owned. It would leave all the newer XR2/3i, 205 gti, nova gsi etc for dead off the lights and around the twisties. Had a bit done to the engine, not much only had 122 bhp at the wheels but only weighed as much as a gnats left knacker! Loved the way it cocked its back inside wheel up when cornering. That. Had "interesting" brakes too!

Have the valve stem oil seals been done? Those cvh engines are notoriously smokey.
Looking good though and I personally prefer the seven spoke alloys to the pepperpots. I'm sure they were an option on the mk2?

come to think of it I've got a 1.8cvh engine sat in my garage if anyone wants it? It's free but it's heavy so would need collecting...

Is that complete or plus cams?

I cant remember the full spec of the head i had. I know it run rough cams and had huge valves. But mine was an old x-flow lump.

That's plus cams and it's on an exchange basis as well.
They still do heads for the x-flow, stage 1,2,3 and race spec
