Default Naughty Boys Class

So I got caught in the car by a scamera van doing 86 on an empty 3 lane A road in the middle of a dry sunny day.

I've been ordered to attend an AA DriveTech class for the bargain price of £95.

In a scale of 1 to poke needles in my eye, how much of a waste of 4 hours of my time will it be?

A friend of mine did one 2 weeks ago.. It was the most boring thing he's ever attended, however he didn't get any points so it was well worth it.

I think a lot of it depends on who the instructors are

86 on an A road! You're lucky you got the chance to do a naughty boy course. I got caught at 76 on an A road a couple of years back and got £100 fine and 3 penalty points with no options.

Yeah, but 16mph over a 70 limit on a dual carriageway is a bit different to 16mph over on a 60 limit single carriageway, and I'm assuming it was a 60 limit because you wouldn't have been done for 76 in a 70........

Go and do the course, take the mickey out of them as much as you possibly can.....or are willing to get away with. I'm their most cynical critic but I'm talking out of my bottom because I've never been on one and everybody I know who has ever been on the receiving end said it surprised them..... Unfortunately I just know to much about their background to take the courses seriously!

I did one a few months ago.Quite a laugh and interesting how many people on it had no idea about driving.
I got done for 48 in a 40 in a variable speed limit on the M25 at around midnight, good visibility, very light traffic and "pedestrians in road"who, needless to say, were not there.Ironically one of the topics on the course was driving economically by avoiding hard braking, which was what I was doing by letting the car slow down off the throttle. Not quickly enough for the camera though.Nice little earner for someone though.

Do it. Mine was run by the same guy who does Bikesafe. The psychological side of why we speed and the physics of breaking at different speeds was interesting. I was pretty clued up on limits for current vehicles and what road signs mean. Others were hopeless which made me wonder how this was their first offence.

Yeah, I did one after being clocked at 33.5 in a 30 limit. I suppose they had to include the half to justify chasing me. I was going down Grapes hill in Norwich (very steep) and was clocked as I went through the lights (on green) at the bottom of the hill. Didn't learn anything from the course and one of the people instructing us was pretty useless. Trying to scare us with non-scary stories.

I know. Fancy looking up the road rather than paying attention to vans on the flyovers. Surprised I make it to the end of the driveway.

Sounds like I'm in for a fun evening.
