Default Heatshrink torch

Have had these for a few years now and they come in useful for heatshrinking, I used to use the small nozzle that came with my gas soldering iron, but naked flame can be dodgy when heatshrinking in-situ on cars and bikes, and liable to melt cable insulation and other stuff. This LASER tools torch has a 'radiant heat source' that is easy to control and just uses butane which you can buy pretty much anywhere.

I finally bought one of these last year and it's still in it's wrapper - I guess I'll never get out of the lazy habit of just holding a soldering iron suitably close to the shrink.

Good buy for proper functioning humans though

I needed one of these today. Did a lot of heat shrinking with a lighter and got that black charred finish to it all. I'm going to invest in one of these asap. Cheers for the link.

As you point out, the problem with using naked flames is that you can damage and weaken the heatshrink and maybe the cable insulation as well, and when doing it in-situ on bikes and cars probably burn your fingers to boot... The Laser heatgun gives a nice even radiant heat ( ignore the 'blower' bit in the description, there is no fan involved ) - the heat is easily controlled by a slider on the side of the gun. Unit also very economical on gas.

as above but i lay the iron on the shrink. if i'm on the bench then i use a gas flame. if i'm doing lots of stuff like looms for my gizmo i use the gas cooker.
