I love the way the old k5 stacks up to new machines, there's a lot that can be said for simple.

I'm a SoCal resident myself and just got back a few minutes ago from a rip up Palomar. Great road and fantastic views. I didn't grow up here but I sure love the geography.

It's engine was the basis of the powerplant for the GSX S1000 which I can assure you is a rip-snorting beast and one of the reasons I bought one.

its a right shonker too. Enjoyed his "daily commute" vid on it. Wonder if they will do the Duc. Boiled spuds no doubt.

As the very content owner of a GSXR1000 K5 track bike this of course comes as no surprise at all......

On a serious note I've a good mate who is pretty handy around a circuit and he had a well sorted older R1. When he then got the latest all singing all dancing electronic traction control/suspension version he managed to trim around half a second off his lap time. He reckons the electronics allowed him to ride the rear end much nearer the limit without risking a high side and that was pretty much the only advantage. Ironically he kept his old bike and actually prefers riding it as it's so much more engaging and he feels his lap times are then down to him rather than the electronics.
