wasn't buying it in order to save weight, just dont like loads of rusty bolts all over my bike! will try my hand it cleaning it up first i guess,

Sounds like you need to have undertaken a traditional British apprenticeship, where the first piece of equipment you get introduced to is a huge pile of emery cloth, apprentices for the use out of.
