Default 2016/2017/run in query..

Anybody have the proper spec for running a new SV650 in? I'm looking at buying an ex-demo model, I know the first 200 were run in at <5000 RPM as I know the guy who did it but it now has around 1200 miles... - thanks for any help..

It should be kept below 5 thousand for first 500 (which is no hardship as in 6th bike will do 70mph), then below 7.5 thousand for next 250 and then change oil and filter at 1000 miles.

Some people just rag the engine from new and swear it works better.

the bores on the new SV are coated so no need to run them in. all you are doing is 'polishing' the machined parts.

i would advise that you stick to the specified or just under the recommended oil changes and dont skimp on oil quality with the new SV, if you get a scratched bore its by by bore coating.

Those were the running in parameters I was given by dealer, you still need to bed the piston rings in even though the bore is SCEM ceramic. I use Castrol Race 1 4T 10W40 fully synth after running mine in (if you buy from Opie oils it is a decent price), the original oil in new engine from dealer is non synthetic as nothing will ever run in using fully synthetic as it is just too good. I have added 60mL of molyslip in mine (so has RiffR4ff) after it was run in, do not exceed that amount or you may get clutch slip, but adding 2% of oil volume seems OK with liquimoly and molyslip.
