Limoges and Lyon don't exactly lie on a straight line heading to Spain! Limoges however is near(ish) to 'Volcania'; an area where the mountains are extinct volcanoes. I've only ever seen it from the autoroute (A75?) in a car and have always wanted to explore. The eastern Dordogne region has some lovely biking roads, as do most of the non-flat areas of France.

So much to do and so little time!

Head for the Pyranees - some fantastic biking roads around there. Cheap bike gear in Andorra too.

If you need accomodation near to Perpignan send a pm to Trickywoos - she has some very good contacts down there

Limoges & Lyon are about 170 miles apart in a straight line, and over 220 miles from from the Spanish border. So, I can only assume you want to go via 1 on the way up and the other on the way back ???

How long are you going for ?
How many of you ?

I can give you some ideas but need some more info.

And this would be better in the Eurotour section.. (that is what it's for)

.

220 miles apart, according to Monsieur Michelin, and as you suggest, pretty much east/west of each other, with Clermont Ferrand in the middle.

http://www.bestbikingroads.com

That is a good site that has riders given routes with reviews.
Jelster pointed me in the direction of the Voseges region in France and we are off there in 6 weeks and that site gives so many rides i am not sure where to begin

In the general area you're talking about, there's

the gorge de l'Ardeche (very picturesque road along the north side, see the classic views of the cirque and that arch over the river)

gorge du Tarn, takes you to Millau and the fabulous viaduc (that huge bridge jobbie)

a bit to the east is the gorge du Verdon, need a head for heights (bit of a common thread here I'm afraid )

a nice selection of Roman type towns, Orange (Arc de Triomphe and Theatre), Arles (arena), Nimes (arena, maison carre), and the super Roman aquaduct at Pont du Gard

west nearer the Pyrenees is Carcassonne with the impressive fortified town,

further north in the Dordogne is Rocamadour

in the Pyrenees you can do the circuit of the cols, Col d'Aubisque, Col du Tourmalet (and the small track up to the Pic du Midi de Bigorre observatory at 2650m)

have fun!
