Progress report on the bar conversion. Redundancy payment came through and I bought a nice low Streetfighter Riser bar.

I have polished up the risers and then just as I was finishing one off, I dropped it and there is a small nick in the bottom of one of them, but it is nothing that cannot be easily sorted.
This is a quick knock together, before final polishing and cleaning. Next thing required, Brake lines and Passing my test.

I have my mod two booked for this Friday, but I am scared, do not feel ready and cannot afford to waste the money on blowing it. I have been on L Plates for two and half years, how can I not be ready? I guess it is just nerves. I fear failing.

If you put as much effort into your test as into fitting shiny bits to your bike, you'll have no problems at all

Best of luck with it

I ran into a problem today with the bar conversion. A quick mock up with the handle bar shows that the mirrors will be directly in line with the grips, giving us a lovely view of our fingers! Not great, especially as being fresh back on to the SV, I am still building up confidence.

So after a bit of research I found out that that mirrors from a GS500F will fit on the fairing, so off to E-Bay and found that they are all somewhat different at the fixing point. This leaves me with a choice, handle bar mounted mirrors and an ugly hole in the fairing or Mirror extenders of some kind. I have had a look at Chewy's site and although I like the spacer idea, it still wont give me the width I need.

The new handle bar is roughly an inch and a half wider on each side than the clip ons, but due to risers, is clashing with my rear view. Any ideas on how to solve this easily and still keep fairing mounted mirrors?

Have I missed something fundamentally easy with the GS500F mirrors and need a slap for being silly or was my original information inaccurate?

Is there anyway you could just extend the mirror stalk somehow? Can you simply cut the stalk in half, buy some tubing with an inside diameter that matches the outside diameter of your mirror stalk, then slip the tubing (cut to size) over the stalk ends and epoxy them together, or am i way out.

Hmm, extending the mirror stalk like that may not look too nice, I am hoping that the bike will continue to look good, hence all of the work I am doing.
