Hi,
My Sv1000s (2004) is losing charge, ive been told its either the regulator or alternator. My 'mechanic' reckons its the magneto and says the magnets are loose on the magneto itself, i bought a fairly new 2nd hand part and he says thats faulty to cos they are slightly loose too. Im not sure he knows what he's on about :s Can anyone tell me if the magnets are supposed to be slightly loose and if there are any known common faults for sv's to loose their charge, im fairly new to all this and have not had the 2nd hand bike very long,a month infact ![]() Last edited by asteer17; 21-10-09 at 08:55 PM. |

Can you get hold of a multimeter? there's a simple test to check whether it's just the reg/rec or the more expensive stuff.

Ive been told its producing charge but not quite enough to charge the battery, also ive been told the alternator is fairly new.
my 'mechanic' (dodgey back street garage) told me @1000 rpm its 10v and 6000rpm its 12v. Ive spoken to a few authorized suzuki shops and they advised me its probably the reg/rec and they usually go after 5yrs approx. Does this help? ![]() Last edited by asteer17; 21-10-09 at 09:06 PM. |

Regrec can go over any time period, independant garages are not necesarily dodgy.
If you have a multimeter (you can get them for £5 b&q style) then you can find out for sure. If not then the only other option I can think of is leaving it in your mechanics hands (or another mechanic)

Thing is, i dont think he's too sure what he's on about, ive rang major bike shops and they are saying diff stuff to him, also he will not order parts to sort it out if its not the part needed, surely if he's running a business he should know what wrong and be able to sort it and order the right parts?? he's had the bike for 8 days now and im still no nearer to getting it back

The above info is true (from what I remember anyway) for my 650 atleast , 1000s could be different. If you want to know if he's having you on ask him what readins he was getting from the battery, and from the alternator (3 wires going to the reg rec I mentioned) he should know if he's decided to strip down the magneto or whatever.
