I've just been looking at my front tyre and it's got a hint of the same happening, to correct this do I need to whip my YSS emulators out and slacken the preload on them a smidge?

no.. the popper valve on the emulator is for compression and you have a rebound problem. to cure that you need to get the oil viscosity correct.

if you have read any threads i have given advice on then you will have read that the 7.5 is a starting point. this is due to different spring ratings. to get the correct rebound for you and your bike you must mix oil viscosity's to get it correct. this requires you to learn how to do a basic bounce test then depending on how the rebound acts you remove 50ml of the 7.5w and add 50ml of 15w or 20w then test again and repeat till you have the correct rebound. you must let the oil properly mix so you cant do this in one go you must ride the bike for a week or so then do as above again till you get it right.

there is no universal 'use this oil' as there are a lot of different ways of doing things. its also one of the reasons that i tell people to weld up the rebound bleed holes as it keeps the oil viscosity low to help give good compression.

Just a note.
Doing a bounce is harder than you might think.
Your need to give it a bloody hard shuve with your full body waight behind it.
I'd use a wheel chock like the type used to hold the bike in a van

That's what I found, my body weight or lack of doesn't help either and it's hard to monitor what the reaction is when you are putting all the effort in.

i'm 10 1/2st and 5ft fek all and i can do a bounce test.

dont use a chock or stands as it wont work. its easy.. pull the front brake on lift the bars then push down violently and let the front end rise with the grips loose in your hands. you dont need that much effort to test for chassis rebound, its only when testing for bump comp/rebound that you need to put a loooot of effort into it.

I've just been out doing some rebound tests.
The front rebounds then dips again after topping out.
The rear takes forever to return to standard.

So in short I need to bin the rear shock and play with heavier oil in the forks, is that correct

i think you might be understanding some things wrong.

the front end: the top yoke without pushing or pulling (at rest) we will call this 'datum'. when you bounce the front end it should go down then return to 'datum' or slightly overshoot by a few mm then go down and rest at 'datum'.

if the front end is going down then overshooting (going past) datum by a large amount then going back down and coming to rest then you need to add some heavier oil.

topping out is the act of when the suspension is fully extended (topped out)

i dont know what you are on about with the rear shock. do you mean that the rear is bouncing up and down when you do the bounce test?
