Wow guys, thanks for all the replies & sorry for coming back to the thread so late.
Lots of interesting discussion.
Plenty of ideas here, I think when the qualifiers are looking like they need replacing, I'lll check some current pricing on the tyres mentioned.

I have Pirelli Diablo's on my 2001 SV. Brilliant tyres & managing to get some serious commuter mileage from them. Recommend the Avon Storm 3D's too.

I get on very well with Continental Contimotions. They are a great all rounder, good in both the wet and the dry. I have no idea how they are if you are a faster or track rider, but for the sort of distance and fast road use I put them through, they do really well.

The down side is that the wear markers are not very well defined which means that you can get low in the tread if you don't watch you tyre wear.

Best tyres I've ever had, and I've tried a few over the last 45 years! I particularly like the quick response to any steering input.

I'm getting some serious serious mileage on the Diablo's. Yes the bike's both used as a commuter & a weekend tool but I'm impressed at the durability and wear on them.

4000 miles on & garage said at least 2500 more when it went in for service 2 wks ago!
