Help I'm losing oil (Actually it's my bike that's losing oil).
Hi, I've got a K6 on nearly 8000 miles and ive started to lose oil. I noticed the other day when doing my first mod (exhaust) and I must have put about a litre in to fill it up to the high mark. Since then I've done a couple hundred miles and its gone down to half way between high and low (the middle!).
I've had a look in the filler cap and there is no 'mayo', and I haven't seen any oil patches on the ground where I park. Is there a common fault which would explain this? What should I do? Should I wait for it to get worse so that it is easier to diagnose? I assume other problems will crop up and highlight the problem area... I want to drive to Germany and back in a couple of weeks but it feels a bit risky now... DONT PANIC!! DONT PANIC!! |

Re: Help im losing oil!
If you are wanting to go to Germany in only a few weeks i would just take it to a garage straight away. No point doing one thing to solve it, then finding out half way there that its still leaking!

Re: Help im losing oil!
Are you checking the level with the bike upright and on flat ground?

Yeah I was kinda hoping it would be something simple I could fix myself but I guess this is unlikely, and it probably wont get better on its own... At the moment I think I will risk the trip to MCN on saturday and take it into a garage on monday. Still, it would be nice to have an idea of the problem

Re: Help im losing oil!
Also if you have just turned the engine of it'll take a good few mins for the all oil to drop back down.

Re: Help im losing oil!
With that sort of consumption I would personally just keep topping it up.

Re: Help im losing oil!
What colour is the exhaust smoke when you start the bike up first thing in the morning, does it smell oily when the bikes running ?
