Default V5 Stolen Recovered

My mate has just done a deal with a lad for a XJ 650 by swapping his GPZ750

It turns out that the V5 is missing, how does he go about getting a replacement?

Yeah,

he might want to do a HPi check or call the DVLA to see if there is any police interest!! 0870 240 0010 I think

He was going to do that today anyway but wondered if they would give him the information. He hasnt done the swap yet but he wants the XJ because he had one when he was a lad :P

The story was plausible enough from the would be seller. The bike was his uncles who had it stolen, when the police found it and returned it he just lost interest as he had bought another bike by then. He then gave it to his nephew who has just passed his test.

And Im not even sure if I believe that when I read it back

You cannot apply for the v5, current owner has to.

Going by my experiences that is not true. Unless the procedure has being changed but all the new owner has to do is apply for a V5 and the DVLA would write to the person whose name is currently on the V5 informing them that an application has been made for a change of ownership.

If a reply is not received IIIRC within two weeks challenging the application then a new V5 would be issued to the new owner/applicant.

Cheers
Ben

Emm.. looks like .

These have been mostly people that know and trust me buying bikes off me. When the letters from the DVLA have arrived I just ignore them and they get the new V5 in their name .

I was a bit surprised first time I got the letter as like you said what's stopping anyone doing that .

Cheers
Ben

As he hasent heard anything positive from the vendor, he has told him to stuff it.

DVLA would not give him any information as he was not the registered keeper
