Buying a 33,000 mile SV?
Hi iv seen a local SV650 K4 that looks real nice and is only £1900.
Only thing is it has 33,000 miles on the clock? this ok for an SV? Do they still run sweet after this kind of mileage? I own a VFR400, with 45,000 on the clock and that still runs sweet, but i dont know all that much about SVs. Regards, Blutonim |

Re: Buying a high mileage SV?
I heard of an SV on here somewhere with 80-90,000 miles running strong.
I've also heard of a blade on 130,000miles running strong. It comes down to how it has been treated and serviced. What service history is with it? |

Re: Buying a high mileage SV?
Mines a 2000 and had 30k on the clock when i bought it last summer, its now up to 38k and still going strong. At the time there was another in the dealers the same age but with 8k on the clock. I opted for the higher mileage bike because it had clearly been better loved, the other looked as though it had been properly abused. I have been gradually getting all maintenance jobs done and its just valve clearances and carb balancing left to be done sometime soon, then im hoping to get at least another 30-40k out of it!!
It seems quite normal for them to reach 60-80k miles when properly maintained so if i was you i would look at the bike itself and not just the numbers on the clock. |

Re: Buying a high mileage SV?
Well, if my black SV is anything to judge by, 34k on the clock, going as sweet as a nut. If you look after it, it'll look as new as any other low mileage one.
Goes up and down the country, or a few miles down the road to work without a hiccup. For a ten year old bike its perfectly acceptable IMO, so thats an average of around 4k a year... Anyway, 33k is nowt....wanna see a ZZR1400 thats 18 months old with over 24k?? Thats high mileage!

Re: Buying a high mileage SV?
My `01 sv650s now has 28K miles, Ive done 7k last year since i bought it in april 2009. Its my daily commuter with full history, I plan on keeping that up, and hopefully adding way way more miles. I looked at lower miles bikes, but the better condition of mine swayed me over the lower mileage ones.
Yet I had a 33k mile fzr 600 some years back, and that was getting quite rattly, but was quite unloved and abused, servicing seems to make one hell of a difference. Lee Last edited by leebex; 03-05-10 at 06:54 PM. |

Re: Buying a high mileage SV?
Mine's an '05 650s bought with 17k on the clock two years ago, have run that up to 26k now and runs as sweet as a nut. Usual wear and tear, sprockets and chain replaced recently, sounds great and just gets better with each ride. I will be keeping mine for a very long time. Agree with comments above about servicing and general care being more important than mileage alone.

Re: Buying a 33,000 mile SV?
From what I've seen and read on here they are more than capable of big mileages and sell regularly with big mileages on. Just keep an eye on oil level and change it regularly and you'll be fine.

mine's just ticked over 48k and i've put 21k of that on in the last 3 years. had problems with the engine and am taking it on a noce long trip around france in a couple of weeks that'll probably see me up to 50k.
