Default ive just been reading threads about oil

typically Sid's thread which TBH is bang on, Ive been phoning around this morning for prices and it varies big style, we've got HG semi stuff at £13 or silkoline semi at £28 i used to use the motul stuff at £29 so whats the diff if I'm dropping this liquid gold out every 2-3k? my local shop recommends silkoline but he's going to isn't he is my gixer not worthy of the £13 HG stuff? anyone used it, any problems?

HG stuff is rebranded Motul if I recall correctly - if it is then it's good stuff

I use it under the advice of Petevtwin. He was reliably informed that the HG stuff is actually just rebranded Motul stuff.

Na. Why spend £28 when you can get the same stuff for £13??
Thats like giving a dealer twice the asking price of a new bike

i use Halford stuff, but then my bike is 14 years old! I've tried the silkoline stuff and didn't notice any difference in fuel ecconomy or running of the bike. I wouldn't bother using the expensive stuff as most of my riding is on the road so probably not really pushing the limits of the oil - more important to do regular changes IMO rather than use the expensive brand name stuff. i'd use HG if there was one in Oxford.

My house mate used what ever she could get free of cheap in her CBR600. ~50k later, including trackdays, drag racing and touring holidays with oil swaps every other trackday or 3k the bike is still going strong.
Still on the OE clutch too! Shes done plenty of changes with HG oil.
I also put a few tubs of it in my hornet with no issues.
