Tapping/clicking noise coming from my engine

Hi .org fans.....

I have a tapping/clicking noise coming from the engine, hard to tell where it is coming from TBH, even when on its stand i can't really track it down, not so apparent when first started, but when its warmed up, you hear it, audible when riding. Do you know what, i can't actually recall if it does it when i'm stationary, how bad?

A friend said it might be the valve clearences? What are your opinions?

So, not long been in the Bike business, so you'll have to get used to me asking what may seem like ridiculous questions!!

Have a '99 Curvy, love her to pieces and she's looking after me pretty nicely so far, but she's taken me on some very expensive shopping trips for two new tires and some sprockets and a chain.

My 2001 Curvy has just started doing the same. Also wondering what to look for. Particularly noticeable when pulling away. Doesn't happen when just revving in neutral or with the clutch pulled in, and it's definitely somewhere in the top end of the engine.

Cam Chain tensioner most likely, have a search its been covered alot.

its the scissor gear u can hear...normally starts around 20k miles...perfectly normal and wont affect the bike, alltho some have em replaced or removed..i had same on my tl1000..and ran fine and still is at 40,000 miles

Makes sense seeing as it doesnt make a noise in neutral or with the clutch in

its a gear thats sharp!?

meant to say that my bike has nearly 17k on the clock if that helps?

Gonna take it for a spin shortly to see if i can identify it a bit more

Where is the scissor gear and what is it driving? I can't find a good cutaway or exploded engine view in my Haynes so I have no idea how the whole thing fits together.
