Default Is the sub frame...

made of Steel..???

Bits come off need to have it welded back up....

I think so, because it rusts so bad and needs to be very strong.

The frame needs to be strong, and that's aluminium - as is the subframe. On the pointy, anyway.

No it's not... Subframe is iron on the pointy. Because it rusts, and it's heavy!

I thought if the subframe was damaged it was an isurance write off?

Usually but not a cat a or B, usually a C.

It's definitely soft iron... and painted to match the aluminium frame.

I had to change mine last year, it's heavy, no way it's alluminium. My new one has worn away some paint, which is now rusting - again, definitely not alluminium.

His bike is a curvey and the sub frames are black. Still i am not sure though.
