Default Tail Bag Recommendations?

I'm wondering if anyone has a tail bag recommendation for a gen3 sv650?

Most of my trips are short, so I don't really want to attach stuff to the frame just for the odd time I go on a longer trip, so a tail bag seems like a good middle ground.

Kriega us20

easy to fit and remove.

Not the cheapest but will last years. Mine is 15 years old still fully waterproof.

Edit: should mention that they are stackable if you need more than 20l

I use a tank bag, find it very convenient.

Hmmm, my 2 cents worth. The weight of a rear trunk is cantilevered behind the rear wheel. Aerodynamic forces act to push the trunk backward. Both effects act to unweight the front wheel, which is the last thing I would want. I went with a tank bag.

No different to having a child as a pilion or a topbox.
Sure it's going to knock seconds off your laptime, but not an issue for the road.

depends on what you want to store in the tailpack.

if its just clothes and footwear then get roll top dry packs made for canoeing. they are cheap as chips compared to stuff like Kriega. make sure that you get a few simple cam buckle straps of you go for roll top bag.

there are also dry duffel bags as well.

if you want to be all biker fancy than yes buy Kriega. word of warning about Kriega stuff. while the main compartment is dry due to an inner bag the outer pockets are not waterproof. Kriega stuff is like biker clothing that rely on a drop liner for waterproofness. yes its dry on the inside but all the pockets are full of water. canoeing stuff is waterproof on the outside.

do not buy anything that requires exterior rain covers... they WILL let water in.

then there is the old rubble sack trick. use any old bag/rucksack and put your clothes in rubble sacks NO NOT BLACK BIN LINERS.

also always carry marigolds and a dish towel......

just wanted to add that you should go for the thick "rubbery" type like THESE and not the thin type.

Johnny - following, I'm after a new bag
Bibio - great, thanks. I've also done the rubble sack thing, it's not a big deal to do so, one fills my Oxford panniers like a liner
Grant - yes a pillion is also a lot (more) weight behind the rear spindle and screws up the ideal balance.

For me, a tank bag is handy anyway but I put the heavy stuff in there and the lighter stuff goes on the back

Have you thought of an Oxford tail pack ?
