Exhaust tweaking (quite a few pics)

So, a while back, like a muppet I lost the front over a cattle grid on my way home from the Isle of Man (ironic eh...)
Resulting in my old can being scuffed and dented at the front, among other things.


Ebay provided me with a new inlet plate for it for £15 along with some packing for a fiver. A16 roadnrace was the shop and they were really helpful.

So I set about with a drill removing the old rivets, then popped out the old endcap and tube, then pulled the packing out.


I then marked out the soon to be stubby can to the length it was going to be and selected a suitably barbaric weapon of butchery.

Shown here with a suprisingly clean hand, and the ever-essential brew (take notes here kids, don't worry too much about the sparks, a bit of iron in the diet's good for you)

After that, my mother nicked her camera back, so theres no pics of it going back together, but it was fairly easy, trimm the inner tube to length, slide packing into can and cut off excess, then slide inner tube in and persuade the new inlet cap in. Rivet in place (breaking as few 3mm drills as possible, you've got 2 to beat )


For comparison, top is the stubby, middle an ART pro series 2, bottom is stock.

Just for a good measure, I fitted a micron stainless race system at the same time with a mid-level link pipe.

Yes I know my plastics are filthy, and my tyres don't match, but it goes like stink.

Riding it, it seems louder, but I've fitted a degutted filter at the same time, so most of what I'm hearing is probably the induction snuffles and snorts.
Probably more due to the rejet than anything else, it now pulls like a gud 'un at 5000rpm, instead of stumbling.

I'm using mikuni jets, 152.5 main, 17.5 pilot (stock IIRC) with the needle raised 1 clip.
It's yet to go on a dyno to see how its fuelling, feels good though.

It was NOT fuelling right, nowhere near. Now at 157.5 pilots, 1/3 of the filter taped over, with the needle at clip 2.

My forks are not usually that colour, usually far worse.

Not as loud as yours, but give it a couple of weeks (1000 miles or so) and see what its like when the packing has settled/been blown out

well that well and and truly told me
