Default Harley flat trackers

Harley's make good flat trackers although the rules were often changed to ensure they remained competitive.

I like the look of a Harley flat tracker. These are not flat trackers nor are they speedway bikes:

I'm not sure I'd take my expensive Harley (even if I had one) on a speedway track.

There was an article in Classic Mechanics a few months back about dirt-track racing in the UK, people are doing it on bizarre old 90s machines like Suzuki RF900s etc

I'd prefer a Kenny Roberts / Steve Baker TZ700 flat-tracker:

The TZ700 soon became the TZ750 and was then banned (along with the Kawasaki triples) and the rules changed to 4 strokes only.

As Kenny Roberts said: "they don't pay me enough to ride this thing".

Kenny is doing a commemorative ride at the 3min30 point but the crowd is so loud you don't hear too much of the bike.

I had the pleasure of briefly meeting Steve Baker at a Mallory Post-TT meeting a few years back. Very gentle and humble man. He was 'parading' a full-fat TZ750 alongside a bunch of other classics (RG500s etc) but he couldn't resist giving it full noise on the start/finish straight. They are still very, very fast bikes, despite the (relatively) low power output.

It still amazes me that Mick Grant was speed-trapped at 191mph in 1977 at the TT
