Lots of folks use old engine oil in their scottys, so new oil will be fine - the cheapest you can find! I'm still using the proper Scottoil though.

I cant see the economic sense in buying new engine oil to put into an oiler. Mind you I havent worked how it compares per litre with the scotoiler oil.

I know one thing. The Scotoiler stuff is much much easier to clean off your wheels the engine oil is...

But if you clean your rear wheel people might notice you have one black wheel and one silver wheel

does that mean the scottoiler oil will fling more and not stick on if its easyeir to wipe off ?? is that a good question ?

oh plus you can get 10w 40 and 10w 50 4.5 liters for £5.99 and a litre of scottoiler oil is like 5.99-£7.99 from what i recall

Scottoil is £5.95 per 500ml (11.90 a litre) - you can get 4 litres of cheap oil from Lidl or somewhere for £10 or less.....

However Scottoil is much easier to clean up and is 'cleaner' in general than engine oil. If I were to use engine oil, I'd use what came out of my bike....

EDIT: beaten to the sums
