Luggage

Have never ridden my bike with luggage on before so am just wondering which item of luggage do people consider easiest to ride with. Not gonna need everything for the NW3 so should I use tankbag, panniers or tailpack?

I threw all my gear in to a rucksack and bungeed it the back of the bike, I set it up so that the bottom of the sack was touching me bum so it was quite cosy you wont need much mate.

I had the full range of Oxford Humpback.

In your position I would go with Tankbag and Panniers.

The Tankbag is good replacement for not having good pockets (or a handbag), so Valuables and the like in there, with the panniers for clothing and the like.

This may leave you with empty space, but its easier to get on and off a bike with panniers than with a tailpack, and it leaves the pillion seat free.

Thanks guys... does the tankbag really hold with just the magnets?? and how do you stop it scratching the paint or doesn`t it?

It's only one night (although she is a girl). I vote the tailpack only.

Edit: Yes it really stays on with magnets, but try it full on the bike with you sat there to. (Claire is only wee)

i find a tank bag gets in the way a bit............ tailpack would be my choice

You can get a mat that goes under it - and yes it does stick with just magnets - I would also put the strap round the headstock tho - but I have ridden without that done tons of times - usually make a point if I am going to be going fast or chucking the bike around tho.

You can get by without the mat, but one day it WILL scratch (I got lucky - I spotted the coin that had stuck to the bottom of the bag before I put it on the bike

Dunno if you noticed the mesh mat I had under my tank bag on the 'newbie' ride to the Peaks Claire? That stops it scratching the tank. You can use the same stuff under the tailpack / panniers to stop them scratching the rear panels on the bike to. The stuff is called 'Wonder Web'.

So what makes the tailpack better/easier to ride with as opposed to panniers?

The problem with the tankbag might be that I only have short arms so when I`m riding I feel like i`m lying on the tank already... would a tankbag get in the way?
