Surplus tools
My Dad passed away last year and has left me with a ton of tools (thanks Dad).
He was a marine diesel engineer and specialised on Ruston&Hornsby (Lincoln) engines which never survived long enough to go metric. I need to get rid of the non-metric tools which is most of them and I don't know where to begin. There are a lot of Snap On brand - Allens, ratchet rings, cold chisels/punches. Several socket sets, more extractors, taps, dies than you can shake a stick at. There are also things that I don't recognise. There are several dial gauges (all in "thou") still in boxes and some that I'm not sure are working correctly (do all dial gauges spring back to start point after pressure is released?) Many of the tools have never been used. It is sad to see so many British tools from companies that no longer exist. I know someone in the Vincent Owners Club and asked him if any of the members would be interested and he's asked for a list but I've reached 5 pages of tools so far and haven't begun on the loose items nor the internal and external micrometers. As an apprentice Dad had to make a tool chest - the larger spanners are in there and I can't see any use for them, they're too "industrial" in size, so I'm ignoring that for now. I don't want money so I don't want to bother with ebay or the like. Any suggestions? (other than buy an old Brit bike). |
