We've got an old car like that. A little while ago an aunt upgraded and the garage offered her peanuts for her old car, a rather beaten up Peugeot 206 Estate, mainly because the airbag light was on plus numerous other minor defects. I took it home, fixed everything for a few quid, knocked out most of the big dents, and it sailed through an MOT so I stuck it away in the corner of the barn. Since then it's been right around the family several times getting used by anybody who needs wheels for visitors etc. My only problem is it's registered to me... I'm getting quite good at batting off various tickets!

The plank sitting next to me on the 6:47 Eurostar to Brussels this morning. It's all very well keeping your headphones on and your woolly hat down over your eyes to help you snooze but if you need to get off the train at an intermediate station it's a good idea to surface every now and then. The exit doors had already closed when he suddenly asked me "is this where we get off" to which I said "only if you want to get off at Lille" at which point he ran for the doors, shouting and banging against things as he did so. The conductor saw him and managed to hold the train while they let him out (he had to run back and get his coat first!) much to everyone's intense merriment. Once the door closed again we all burst out laughing.

I have on more than one occasion got off the train late in the evening only to see Stu's mate Mark sound asleep as the train pulls away past me. I then ring Stu and ask him to call Mark's wife to tell her her husband is on his way to Ipswich/Norwich/Clacton.

I remember years ago a guy asleep on a train to Cambridge, he had a piece of paper on top of his briefcase saying "Bishops Stortford please" - someone had written "unlucky" underneath and left him to snooze on to Cambridge
Cruel, but I had a giggle after I'd woke him up ...

I was so hoping the same chap would get on the same train back as me this afternoon. Had a good look at the folk on the platform as we stopped at Lille but did not spot him. Probably for the best as there is no way I could have maintained a straight face.

After Test match days I'm generally shattered so I tend to look for someone wearing an MCC tie who has been at the game, say hello, tell them why I'm so tired and ask if they can wake me if I'm dozing as we approach my station. It hasn't failed yet.
