Default question for the computer experts

when my dad installs microsoft autoroute 2007 on his pc the map screens is all washed out with colour (virtuly black and white?) this is driving him mad and he cant get it back to normal? ive uninstalled it and re installed it but it still comes up black and white? all the rest of the pc and its colours are ok? any ideas before 2 pc's go in the dustbin?

Kwak, when viewing the map press the following key combination...
Left ALT +Left SHIFT + Print Screen.

On the dialog that pops up, press Cancel (to disable the setting).

Windows High Contrast settings.

Baph it didn't solve the problem my mum is partially sited and my dad has been adjusting the high contrast settings or something? he knows its something he's done because he did the same thing to his laptop too? it only happens on auto route tho? i cant fathom it out? any more ideas?

Check the display properties for colour depth (32bit will be the best bet, even for testing purposes only).

I'll put my thinking cap on just in case it's not that...

Of course, there is the easy way of using a Windows Restore point (if in Vista, or a prudent XP user).

EDIT: I can't remember how for the life of me, but IIRC, you can change the background colour of the map in AutoRoute, that might help... Still thinking...

No problem matey. I'll put that thinking cap away now... starting to hurt me head.

EDIT: Remember to tell your folks that if they do the same key short cut, and press OK (instead of Cancel), it will restore their high contrast settings as they were previously. So best of both worlds, your mum can see easily (don't know just how bad her sight is) and your dad gets his maps in colour.

cheers for that, going slightly off topic mate we should be able to meet you at stormy on Sunday to guide you in to Milford common for this bike awareness thing, will confirm on Friday or sat tho.

No worries, you've got my mobile # haven't you? I'll be in the office until 5pm Friday, and off saturday. I can pickup PMs etc on here whilst in the office, and get an instant notification too
