Badly running motor

Was on the SV at brands and it was running very poorly.

It was popping and banging and loss of top end power when hot.
All if this lead me to breaking down coil on the front cylinder ( exhaust was warm to touch)

I have since replaced the coils (pair)
I checked the charging rate, sat at 14.08v and dropped to 13.6 when revs were increased.

I have now ordered a replacement reg/rec unit but it is running very badly.
The front cylinder is pouring petrol in by the bucket load (going to strip the carbs and check all out tomorrow)

So my question is... New coils made it worse (but exhausts ran around the same temp) any ideas anyone?

What makes you think it is pouring petrol in the front?
If that, choke plungers often stick, and check the float height, and needle seating and position.

Well before I pulled off the carbs you could easily see petrol flowing from the needle whereas the rear you could barely see it. After removing them, there is now a pool of petrol above the front cylinders valves.
Will strip and check all the seats and adjustments today and we'll see if that changes anything.

Sounds like float valves to me

shouldnt be pools of fuel anywhare,,,,a light misting of fuel is what allows a motor to run, i agree with chris, badly adjusted floats ,,,,,

I stripped out the carbs today.
Removed and air lined all jets and seats, checked the jets were matched (
They were) checked float height, all ok. Put carbs back in bike this evening and ran it up, all ok!

Now all I need is to give it a run or on a dump to make sure it is all ok for next weekend!

while the carbs apart, its a good idea to se if the fuel cut off valves are seating, take out the needles, whipe a little engineers blue arround the needle taper, and place back in the the needle housing, lift out again , there should be an even mark in the blue whare seating has took place, if not you will need to create a new seat using brasso, and it a pain in the ****, some needles are made of nylon ,

If it ran ok now it was probably a bit of sh*t stopping the needle from seating

I know this to be the case sometimes, they are a nightmare, using a dill bit helps.
I used red rubber grease as we dont carry blue.
